《《 *BIBLE STUDY* 》》

7 October 2022

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Romans 6:23 NKJV
– For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
.
Last Sunday Bible Study touched on the issue of
… a  generational curse >> 2 Samuel 21:1-14
… that affected a whole nation with famine
… and decimated  the family of King Saul long after his transgression & his death.
.
The judgement was enforced  in front of the Lord
… by King David
… who handed over the 7 family members of Saul to the Gibeonites to be slain
.. leaving Jonathan – a remnant chosen by grace??
… And after that,  God heeded the prayer of the land!!
.
Some questions therefore arose on the issue of curses.
Here we touch on some aspects on the issue of generational curses.
~~~~~~~~~

Exodus 20:4‭-‬5 NKJV

  • “You shall not make for yourself a carved image—any likeness of anything that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
  • you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

… the point here >> of those who hate the Lord.

.

Lamentations 5:7 NKJV

  • Our fathers sinned and are no more, But we bear their iniquities.

.

But

>> For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made us free from the law of sin and death … Romans 8:2

.

Therefore

Jeremiah 31:29‭-‬30 NKJV

  • In those days they shall say no more : ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge.’

But every one shall die for his own iniquity; every man who eats the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

Deuteronomy 24:16 NKJV

  • “Fathers shall not be put to death for their children, nor shall children be put to death for their fathers ; a person shall be put to death for his own sin.

Ezekiel 18:2‭-‬4 NKJV

2. “What do you mean when you use this proverb concerning the land of Israel, saying: ‘The fathers have eaten sour grapes, And the children’s teeth are set on edge’?

3. “ As I live,” says the Lord God , “ you shall no longer use this proverb in Israel .

4. “Behold, all souls are Mine; The soul of the father As well as the soul of the son is Mine; The soul who sins shall die.

.

Therefore as regards generational curses…

… one needs to repent of the sin, transgression or iniquity

… and not come into agreement by partaking of them.

Deuteronomy 30:19 NKJV

  • I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing ; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;

Ezekiel 18:14‭, ‬19‭-‬20 NKJV

14. “ If, however, he begets a son Who sees all the sins which his father has done, And considers but does not do likewise;

19. “Yet you say, ‘Why should the son not bear the guilt of the father?’ Because the son has done what is lawful and right, and has kept all My statutes and observed them, he shall surely live.

20. The soul who sins shall die. The son shall not bear the guilt of the father, nor the father bear the guilt of the son. The righteousness of the righteous shall be upon himself, and the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon himself.

Ezekiel 18:30‭-‬32 NKJV

30. “ Therefore I will judge you, O house of Israel, every one according to his ways, ” says the Lord God . “Repent, and turn from all your transgressions, so that iniquity will not be your ruin.

31. Cast away from you all the transgressions which you have committed, and get yourselves a new heart and a new spirit. For why should you die, O house of Israel?

32. For I have no pleasure in the death of one who dies,” says the Lord God . “Therefore turn and live!”

There is  the sin

… and there is the consequence of the sin.

Exodus 34:6‭-‬9 NKJV

6. And the Lord passed before him and proclaimed, “The Lord , the Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth,

7. keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty , visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.”

8. So Moses made haste and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshiped.

9. Then he said, “If now I have found grace in Your sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray, go among us, even though we are a stiff-necked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us as Your inheritance.”

Numbers 14:17‭-‬19 NKJV

17. And now, I pray, let the power of my Lord be great, just as You have spoken, saying,

18. ‘The Lord is longsuffering and abundant in mercy, forgiving iniquity and transgression; but He by no means clears the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children to the third and fourth generation.

19. Pardon the iniquity of this people, I pray, according to the greatness of Your mercy, just as You have forgiven this people, from Egypt even until now.”

Deuteronomy 5:9‭-‬10 NKJV

9. you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. For I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate Me,

10. but showing mercy to thousands, to those who love Me and keep My commandments.

Judges 3:9 NKJV

  • When the children of Israel cried out to the Lord , the Lord raised up a deliverer for the children of Israel, who delivered them: Othniel the son of Kenaz, Caleb’s younger brother.

We need to humble ourselves

… and boldly approach the Throne of Grace

… where we receive mercy

… and find grace for help in time of our need.

Indeed

Galatians 3:13-14 NKJV

  • Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law , having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree” ),
  • that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

Romans 8:1‭-‬4 NKJV

1. There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

2. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.

3. For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh,

4. that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

.

Judgement against us is therefore set aside as the righteousness of God in Christ

.

2 Corinthians 5:12 NKJV

For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.

Isaiah 54:17 NKJV

No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, And their righteousness is from Me ,” Says the LORD.

No one can curse whom the Lord has blessed…

… The Lord can turn a curse into a blessing

… A curse without a cause cannot land

Numbers 23:8,12  NKJV

8. “How shall I curse whom God has not cursed? And how shall I denounce whom the LORD has not denounced?

12. And God said to Balaam, “You shall not go with them; you shall not curse the people, for they are blessed .”

Deuteronomy 23:5 NKJV

  • Nevertheless the LORD your God would not listen to Balaam, but the LORD your God turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the LORD your God loves you.

Proverbs 26:2 NKJV

  • Like a flitting sparrow, like a flying swallow, So a curse without cause shall not alight.

John 8:36 NKJV

  • Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
